Hello, and welcome to Life Coaching Professionally. I'm Wendy Buckingham and I've had over 20 years experience as a life coach, working with people from all walks of life, and with all sorts of issues. I created this website because I felt there was a need for some independent information on creating a life coaching career, one that wasn't attached to a school or an association. You'll find it's full of useful information and tips to help new and aspiring coaches on a journey towards this rewarding and exciting career. Some of the things you'll learn about will be where to get the best training and certification; in fact, I have a page on the questions to ask before you enroll in anything. And before I go any further, I actually do think it's important that, even if you bring a load of other qualifications to coaching, to have some coach specific training, even if it's just a brief course that lets you know what coaching is about and how it is different from other forms of the healing profession. It can be a bit lonely and challenging when you first want to be a coach. So one of the things I would recommend is you join a coaching association. You'll find a list of these on the site and some of them even offer regular chapter meetings, both in person and online. So you get to meet other coaches in your field and make some great connections. It's one thing to become a good coach, it's quite another to build a successful coaching business. So I've included on this site lots of ways you can grow your coaching practice. One page features 12 proven low cost and no cost marketing things you can do to raise your profile and attract clients. Another section is on life coaching websites. And here, I need to make the point that it's really easy to get taken in by websites that offer you the earth and cost little. Or by a designer who will create something for you. That's really pretty, but does absolutely nothing in the way of engaging or attracting your clients. So on life coaching websites I give you loads of tips and hints both on the content of your website and what you need to do to make it easier to get around and have content to engage your prospective clients and make them go, wow, this is somebody that I'm really a good fit with and I'd really like to work with. In my resources section, which is quite extensive, I provide lots of processes and information to help you, not only in your coaching but to grow your coaching business. I also include lots of products and coaching aides from colleagues of mine that can help you grow your practice and become a better and more prosperous coach. So please do take the time to explore Life Coaching Professionally. You'll find all the subjects on the site map and I'd love to hear from you, and any comments you have to make.
Just a few words about finding the right coach certification course for you. I find one of the most common things I hear is people who have enrolled in a course, and then find it's not offering what they thought it would, and is actually not even a credible certification. What you have to remember is that the certification offered by a school, is only as good as that school itself. You actually need to find one that is accredited by one of the major life coaching associations, such as the ICF. Having said that, I created a page for you to ask the right questions to make sure the training, you're going to enroll in is the one that's going to give you what you need and want, and you won't end up being disappointed or wasting your money. A couple of the things I get you to look at in these questions is firstly, does the school have the right focus for you. Some trainings have a business focus, some trainings have a personal focus and it's a question of asking to see the syllabus, so you can see exactly what you're going to get in your training. The other important question, especially, if you're not living in a major center to ask is, is this training available online? I know I did my training entirely online with CoachU, in America when I was in Australia. And another important thing to look for is, is this training accredited by one of the major coaching associations. If not, it could be just somebody who's decided "oh yeah, I can do coach training". And they may not even be a coach themselves. So do be careful with that one.
