A Guide to Outsourcing Social Media for Life Coaches

This guide to outsourcing social media will help you understand:

  • the benefits of outsourcing social media
  • what outsourcing involves
  • how to choose the right social media partner for quality results
  • the traps to avoid when choosing a social media outsourcing partner.

Should You Outsource Your Social Media Posts?

Many coaches find that maintaining a constant stream of social media posts is a real challenge and a time consuming chore. One solution is to consider the option of outsourcing to a specialist who can create authentic content and strategically place posts for you.

Here are three things that you should consider if you are wondering whether or not to outsource social media posting:

  1. Do you have the time and knowledge to do it effectively yourself, to get the results you need?
  2. Do you know you have the right social media skills?
  3. Do you want to do it? 😀

If your answer is NO to these questions, then it will be useful to consider finding the right, affordable social media partner that understands your type of coaching business.

Finding the right service will free up your headspace and time to concentrate on your actual coaching.

If you are considering doing your social media networking yourself, read my Social Media Networking for Life Coaches guide to help you get the best results for your coaching business.

What are the Benefits of Outsourcing Social Media Activity?

Some of the tasks you'll no longer have to worry about if you outsource include:

  • No more stress about what to post, when to post, or how to engage your audience;
  • Developing and implementing a social media strategy
  • Creating engaging posts
  • Identifying the right platforms for your posts
  • Scheduling posts for optimum exposure
  • Responding to comments and interacting with followers
  • Monitoring your program and giving advice.

This help can either come from an organization that specializes in social media optimization or you may choose to work with a social media savvy VA (virtual assistant). It's up to you to decide which services you need and what you would prefer to do yourself.

How Do You Choose the Right Ssocial Media Outsourcing Partner?

Outsourcing goals

At first glance, it may seem easy to outsource your social media requirements to a third party service. However, if you search "outsourcing social media", a huge and confusing number of individuals and organizations will pop up offering various packages and prices.

What can you do to make sense of it all?

The answer lies in the questions you ask and the rules YOU set when you hire them. Here are my 8 "Rules of the Game".

8 Questions to Be Sure You Have the Right Social Media Partner

1. Your needs and wants

  • When you are still looking, review all the services you find online. Examine what they offer and write down what YOU need.
  • Define what you expect a third-party service to deliver so it meets your business goals for outsourcing social media. If you are outsourcing your social media, the firm you hire will be an extension of your business, and so needs to perform just like an employee would.
  • Once you have defined what you want, choose five or six social media services and compare your needs with what is offered.
  • Check if they offer a trial period for you to test the results.
  • Get to know the refund policy. Whether you are hiring them monthly or annually, you need to know what the commitment is.

2. Do they fit your needs and wants?

Ideally the process above will have whittled the list of prospective services down to two or three.

  • Get in touch with your prospective social media partners. Email is fine as a start, but if you think they are potential providers, then you should actually talk to them.  You just don't get the "essence" of who they are unless you communicate with them. Remember - they will need to BE you in the work they do!
  • Get them to explain the trial period so you can hear any details and question them.
  • Get them to explain the refund policy in the same way.
  • Ask in more detail about the outsourcing packages they offer. Are they flexible enough for you? You will probably want a provider that allows you to pick and choose the services you need instead of just complete packages.
  • Get them to tell you what they need from you. If, for example, they suggest you do video on TikTok and you hate creating video, then that is something to know before you start!

3. Further Qualification Questions

Are there testimonials from your target audience?

For example, if most of their testimonials seem to be from small to medium sized businesses, check to see if they also have any from professionals such as coaches or therapists.

Can they demonstrate they understand and reflect your voice?
That is, can they use language you would use? Can they write content for posts in a way that connects with your particular audience?

Until you are confident they can do this, you should request to approve the proposed posts before they are uploaded.

Do they know the forum rules?
If you want the service to post on your behalf in private coaching forums, ensure they are familiar with each forum's rules.

Every forum has its own set of rules. If they are broken, your post may be repeatedly declined, costing you money and credibility with no tangible result. You may even be banned.

Understanding the rules is especially necessary when a post is placed on multiple social media forums as a routine process.

4. Will you have a dedicated contact person?

It can be really frustrating to get a different person who may not be familiar with your account every time you contact the organization. It is invaluable to have someone who is:

  • familiar with your project
  • can personally guide you
  • is easy to communicate with
  • and provides speedy responses.
  • 5. Outsourcing social media still needs your input

The bottom line in finding the right social media outsourcing partner is not to "delegate by abdication" with blind trust. Keep an eye on where your posts are supposed to appear and that the content is in your "voice".

Take the time to do your own monitoring so you can see how the outsourcing is working for you and if it is getting the results you need.
